Another portrait I did right after the workshop in January 2014.

Charcoal Portrait Drawing

In January 2014 I attended a charcoal portrait drawing course by Stephan Nuetzel. My second day project was a portrait of the Vienna based Canadian artist Andrew Judd. I used charcoal and white crayons.

First female portrait

My first female portrait was quite a challenge. Women are difficult to paint in general. I was mostly scared of making her look older. Besides I had no idea how to paint the hair and which colors to mix. And the lighting of the original photo didn’t help much either. On top of this the painting was supposed to be a surprise for the lady. Anyhow it somehow worked out and I think she really liked it!

Sketching on the iPad

While I still have to upload all of my previous work in the next couple of weeks, I’d like to share a few sketches I’ve made with Paper on my iPad recently. I really start to like this simple and intuitive app.

My first acrylic portrait

Inspired by Felix Eckardt‘s book “Genial Malen – Porträt” I started off painting my very first portrait with acrylics in July 2013.

Welcome to my site

Hi, I’m Michael from Vienna, Austria. I’ve always wanted to draw, paint and create stuff. It took until my early thirties before I started. In summer 2013 I finally went to buy the whole equipment and just did it. Now after one and a half years of trying and learning and – most important – doing, I feel like sharing my work, meeting other creative people, getting feedback, improving my skills …

… and keep on creating.

The first picture I want to post on my site is a self-portrait. My first experiment with Paper from FiftyThree.
